"For three long hours, Mary stood at the Crucifixion. Every
agony was reflected in her maternal heart. At Bethlehem
she had given the Savior to us; now the Savior dying
gives Mary to us, and she accepts us as her children."
-(Behold thy Mother)
Origin:
The term Mater Dolorosa is one of the Latin titles given to the Virgin Mary which means "Sorrowful Mother" or Mother of Sorrows. Devotion to the Dolors of Mary is as old as Holy Church: it had its birth on the day of the Passion at the foot of the cross, when our Lord Jesus Christ gave us his Mother to be our Mother as well. During the crucifixion of her son, Mary plunged in sorrow and bathed in tears, the Mother of Dolors. Therefore, we must have compassion towards the Sorrows of the Holy Mother of God. This is a great form of Christian piety that we can give to our Mother.
Mission Statement:
Mater Dolorosa Mission was founded to extend the compassion for the sufferings of Jesus crucified and of Mary Desolate. This mission is dedicated to upholding the true traditions of the Catholic Church laid down by previous Popes and manifested through Archbishop Marcel Lefebrve.
